Betelgeusian differences to other aliens and humans:
Ford is a humanoid, looking much like a human. However, he has enhanced senses, and is able to sense not just the human five but at least three others – there are probably more, but he hasn’t been able to work them out yet.
He is the possessor of a Babel fish (which, if you’re interested, goes into the ear and has never come out), meaning that he can understand pretty much any language you throw at him.
He has a lower body temperature than humans, and is able to deal with extremes a lot better.
Background information: Ford grew up on Betelgeuse with his three mothers and father. His favourite mother, Citroen, pushed him in his education, but his mind was always in the clouds, only coming down to win a game of chess (which, for the record, he has only lost twice in).
After finishing with the highest marks in his year (much to the spite of his year mates as such a sharp mind should surely being at least conscious during his intense classes), he worked in the local area in a 9-5 job in a bank. The only thing that he came back for was Oxford Cambridge as she was known. He stuttered his way through an introduction and a first date, and two years later he was happily married (although still in the boring 9-5 job). However, she had a sense of loyalty, as her cousin’s second ex-best friends sister was a friend of a person whose race became involved in the Time War.
She quit the bank and joined the fight, promising she’d back.
After her fall with Arcadia and eight months curled up in bed, sobbing, or curled up at work sobbing, Ford decided to start living, if not for himself, for her, and started after seeing an advertisements started working with the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, travelling around the universe to collect information.
One day, he was in the slums of Harditopola when he saw the most extraordinary sight – namely, a man dressed in the strange clothes. He followed him, and after a wild adventure involving a toad, a strange toilet and a stun gun set at the wrong setting, he had met members of the Time Agency, who saw his potential and asked if he was interested in joining.
Three years later he had passed through all the training and was out on missions. He was a Special Agent within five and led his own team before becoming Director of Operations for the Agency, helping to plan the more technical details of the running.
He is a strange guy, but nice if you give him a chance. He’s quirky and eccentric, but lovable. Usually, he can be seen in his office working while singing to himself, sitting around with a puzzle and a mug of tea (tea, of course, none of that coffee rubbish for him) or trying to challenge the Agency’s best and brightest to a game of chess and enjoying wrong-footing them more than he should.
He doesn’t get out of the office much, but when he is out he’s always pretty well noticed, and often attends lessons to see how recruits are doing, as well as briefing and debriefing the teams for their missions.
Easily put, Ford is one of those people you won’t easily forget.
